Skoda unveils the Skoda Vision Gran Turismo, a stunning virtual electric car. As the name suggests, Vision Gran Turismo is specially designed for the seventh edition of the very popular series of the same name Gran Turismo 7 racing game. The Vision Gran Turismo is inspired by the ŠKODA 1100 OHC Spider from 1957 and is equipped with four electric motors with a combined power of no less than 800 kW/1071 hp.
Škoda Vision Gran Turismo marks Škoda's virtual debut in one of the most iconic video game series of all time. In Gran Turismo 7, racing fans, as in previous versions, can race around the world's most famous circuits in a highly realistic environment. ŠKODA's debut in Gran Turismo 7 offers a new generation of drivers an innovative and fun way to learn about the brand and its new solid, modern design language.
The Škoda Vision Gran Turismo virtual car is inspired by the Škoda 1100 OHC Spider from 1957, which was developed to participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Under the leadership of Chief Designer Oliver Stefani, the ŠKODA design team has created a stunning single-seater. The design combines elements of the legendary 1100 OHC with a new, solid, modern design language, which will be used in upcoming ŠKODA electric models.
Active design
The low and elongated body of the Skoda Vision Gran Turismo gives the car a very modern and futuristic look. The stylish and dynamic exterior of this concept car contains active aerodynamic components – such as the separate rear wing – that adapt to the driving conditions. This, combined with the four electric motors, ensures balanced, track-worthy performance. Players can choose from two different paint colors for the Skoda Vision Gran Turismo: one reminiscent of the famous Skoda 130 RS – famous for its double victory in the 1977 Monte Carlo Rally – and the second in matte Explorer Green, the car's signature colour. The new solid, modern design language first appeared on the previous Skoda Vision 7S.
Central driver
In the Skoda Vision Gran Turismo, the driver sits in the middle of a simple digital cockpit, cockpit-style. Formula 1 racing car. The adjustable sports seat, ergonomically designed to hug the driver's body, is equipped with a six-point harness in a striking red-orange colour. The futuristic-looking carbon steering wheel is flattened at the top and bottom. Above the steering wheel, and directly in the driver's field of vision, a crystal serves as a power meter. The display in the cockpit not only displays the current speed, selected driving mode and battery level, but also acts as a rear-view mirror, so the area behind the car is always visible.
The Vision Gran Turismo is powered by four electric motors, powered by an 87 kWh lithium-ion battery. Each motor delivers 200 kW and can spin up to 25,000 rpm, resulting in a massive total power of 800 kW/1,071 hp.
