The spontaneous action of air traffic controllers at Brussels Airport ended: “All flights will depart or land today” | Zaventem

Air traffic to and from Brussels Airport was halted for two hours on Saturday evening. The Christian Union ACV confirms that this situation is the result of actions carried out by air traffic control at SKeyes. Between 6pm and 8pm, it was impossible to take off and land at the airport. “That's why I called my family who came to take me here,” says tourist Jenny from Zottegem from Ostend Airport. “People just want to go on holiday and so such an action is a real shame.”

For two hours, landing and take-off from the national airport were impossible. Traffic started again at 8 p.m. According to a Brussels Airport spokesman, all flights scheduled for Saturday evening will also be able to depart or land. “There are flights diverted to other airports. They waited there, but now they will fly to Brussels Airport.”

According to the ACV trade union, the conflict over changing work schedules is the basis of the action. “These were recorded by management without any involvement,” says Kurt Kalerts of ACV Transcom. “The campaign therefore has widespread support.” The immediate reason for this action was the employee's parental leave being cancelled. According to Skyes, the presence of that person was necessary to ensure the continuity of the operation.

One flight was diverted to Ostend, from where passengers were transferred by bus to Zaventem. However, some travellers, especially from West and East Flanders, chose to arrange transportation themselves in the hope of returning home a little faster. “TUI arranged everything immediately. However, it was very stressful for me to go first to Brussels and then back to Zottegem. That's why I called my family who came to take me here,” says Jenny. She is happy with TUI's quick intervention, but He regretted this spontaneous action. “People just want to go on holiday and so such an action is a real shame.”
