The United States has experienced the warmest winter on record, according to NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) on Friday. Except for Alaska and Hawaii, the average winter temperature in the United States is 3.1 degrees Celsius, the agency said.
“Continued warming” has caused “continuous ice cover shrinkage” in the Great Lakes of North America. Snow cover reached an all-time low in mid-February, NOAA said.
Last month, there were also huge wildfires in the state of Texas. The fire burned more than 430,000 hectares and became the largest fire in the southern state.
Last February was described by NOAA as the third warmest February on record in the United States. The American company has data for the last 130 years.
The European Earth Observatory's Copernicus project earlier this week said the last three months were the hottest ever recorded on Earth. February marked the ninth consecutive month of record breaking heat.
