Disappointment abounds in the Dutch camp at the World Swimming Championships in Doha (Qat). Our northern neighbors had a good chance of winning a medal in the national mixed team 4x100m medley. Things were looking good with a second-place finish in the series, until the disqualification threw a spanner in the works.
Look no further than the Netherlands in the 4x100m medley final tonight.
During qualifying this morning, the orange quartet swam to second place, but their time was canceled due to disqualification.
Things went wrong for final swimmer Kira Toussaint, who took care of the freestyle. At her turning point, she kicked while still lying on her back. This is allowed in the 4 x 100 meter freestyle, but not in the medley.
the difference?
In a medley race, each swim must be different from the previous one. Since the backstroke is a separate stroke, you are no longer allowed to swim on your back in the other strokes.
Toussaint herself could not believe her eyes when she heard the news: “I don’t think this makes sense. No one told me that today, but I won’t blame anyone.”
Caspar Corbo, who swam the breaststroke, was also very disappointed. “This is the stupidest way possible to get disqualified,” he sighed. “I didn't even know that was possible.”
