Please forgive the title. We know the days of the Kia Clarus, Sephia and Joyce are long gone. These days Kia is a respectable player in the mid-range segment and regularly produces nice surprises. Think the Kia Proceed GT, Kia EV6 GT or Kia Optima Wagon. Today we have another one in the form of the Kia K8.
This is a large sedan from Kia. The model is already from 2021, but they gave the car a facelift. In many cases, facelifts are very subtle these days, but in this case Kia was very strict. The overall length has increased, because the front and rear bumpers have become larger. In full line with the Kia EV9, the K8 now has vertical lighting units.
The rest of the design is pretty neat, except for the rim design. Well, replacing the wheels is easy. Anyway, the Kia K8 is not about looks as much as it is about the interior. In such a large limousine you want to sit in a luxurious cabin and Kia has succeeded. It is particularly elegant, but not bare. Simple, but not simple. This is great.
Kia K8 Technology
Of course, we’ll have to actually sit for a while to test whether the use of materials and finishes live up to our first impressions. It looks pretty good, especially with that brown leather. That’s also true of the Kia’s big tech. Oddly enough, the base Kia K8 doesn’t have any turbochargers. You get a 2.5-liter four-cylinder (195 hp and 248 Nm). The top model is a 3.5-liter V6 with 296 hp and 250 lb-ft (359 Nm).
There’s also an eco-friendly option, the 3.5 LPI, a propane-fueled six-cylinder engine. It produces 237 hp and 313 Nm. There will also be an electric version in the form of a hybrid with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder electric motor, which together produce 227 hp and 349 Nm. All versions have front-wheel drive, except for the most powerful V6. You can get it with all-wheel drive. Unfortunately, the Kia K8 won’t be coming to the Netherlands.
