Three migrants missing after trying to cross the Channel | Abroad

Never before have so many illegal immigrants crossed the Channel from France to Great Britain. And British media reported, on Friday, that about a thousand people crossed the crossing on Thursday. According to the Maritime Administration of the Canal and North Sea, three migrants who crossed the canal in kayaks are missing.

On Thursday, the National Gendarmerie discovered two boats that had drifted off the coast of Calais, France. Two drowned people were rescued, but they said three people were still missing. At nightfall, the searches ceased to no avail.

It is estimated that around 23,000 migrants have already arrived in Britain via the Channel this year. This is already more than double what it was in the whole of 2020. This increases pressure on British Home Secretary Priti Patel. The conservative politician had already announced several times to ban illegal immigration. The BBC quoted a government source urging France to lose control of the situation on its coasts. Many people there are waiting for an opportunity to get to Great Britain. London supports the French controls by 63 million pounds.

The British government instituted a strict immigration regime after Brexit. Minister Patel wants to make it more difficult for migrants to seek asylum after arriving in Britain. Restricting freedom of movement is the Brexit promise of Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s Conservative Party.
