televisionTV creator Tom Weiss, 55, knows what to do in the coming months because he has no less than three new shows on his schedule for next year. What can we expect from this? Tom is already lifting the tip of the veil at MNM.
“I feel like I’m doing too much,” Wes tells Julie van den Steen on MNM. Three programs will be released in 2024. First, there is the new season of ‘Kamp Waes’, in which ordinary citizens undergo difficult special forces tests with Tom. Season 2 will also be available in the Netherlands.
Weiss’s other two projects are more ambiguous. He is working on a program that will temporarily have the working title “Kalm Waes”. What is certain is that this series will also be broadcast in Belgium and the Netherlands. But what does it mean exactly? “Are you going to sit on a yoga mat somewhere and be really quiet?” Julie wonders. “It might be possible,” says Tom.
He has already shared an anecdote from the series. “Ghent University monitored my phone use for three months for the programme. How much time it takes me, when and why I am on my phone. I always say I need my mobile phone for work, but that’s actually nonsense.” He says the results have been increasing. “I always start with something practical – a GPS or a banking app – but then follow that up with twenty minutes on Instagram, fifteen minutes on Facebook…”
Then there’s that fantasy series. It’s not a new season of Undercover, because that series is “definitely over,” he says. It’s a completely new story. “The film is about a father who confronts his daughter and is going through a difficult stage in his life. It is also special for me, because I have a daughter myself (Issa (27), ed.),” Tom reveals. It’s a bit of research, isn’t it? Sometimes things go very well, sometimes poorly. This is something we will play with.”
