Former US President Donald Trump is scheduled to visit the southern border of the United States with Mexico on June 30. He is doing this at the invitation of Texas Governor Greg Abbott.
Trump’s successor, Joe Biden, suspended funding for the construction of massive border fences in January as one of his first policy actions. The wall and fence have already been extended along the 3,200-kilometer southern border of the United States, but Trump promised to build more fences during his 2016 election campaign. Trump said this would prevent more immigrants from entering the United States.
Abbott announced last week that he would continue to build the wall in his home state, regardless of the Washington administration’s plans. It is unknown at this time what he will do after leaving the post. The governor is one of a group of Republicans who have accused Biden of creating a crisis with his more liberal immigration policy than Trump.
In his communications about the visit, Trump described the border area as a “disaster area.”
