Aksu has infuriated conservative circles by referring to Adam and Eve as ignorant in one of her songs. The song was released already in 2017, but a few weeks ago the singer released a new video for the song, after which a whole hate campaign against the 67-year-old singer began.
In the song called “Shahan Pir-i Yishamak” (“It is wonderful to be alive”), she once sings “We ride on the unknown and go to ruin. Send my regards to the ignorant Adam and Eve.” Much to the dismay of the chief, among others, because Adam is seen in Islam as the first prophet. Without naming the singer, he threatened to “cut the tongues of those who speak badly of Adam and Eve.” A protest was also held in front of Aksu’s house, and unknown persons filed a complaint alleging that Aksu was guilty of “insulting and provoking religious values”.
The singer publicly responded to the threats. “You can’t hurt me, you can’t hold my tongue,” she wrote in a letter. In addition to her numerous hate messages, she has also received a lot of support from citizens, musicians and politicians – including Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu.
