Union SG have announced the arrival of Jari Stevens to the website. The 20-year-old defender was transferred from KAA Gent on a non-transfer basis and has signed a contract until 2026 with an option for an additional season.
Stevens played for Jongkai Gent last season and was also the team captain. However, his contract with the Buffaloes has expired and the winger has opted for a new challenge. Stevens begins working with vice champion Union SG
First under 23
Stevens was the captain of Jong KAA Gent’s talent and was seen as a great promise. The Belgian youth international played 25 matches in the national first division. Former coach Hein Vanhaezebrouck also gave Stevens his debut. In the preliminary rounds of the Conference League, it came with fifteen minutes to go against MSK Žilina.
Stevens will first move to Union SG’s under-23 side and then move up to the first team. The right-back will therefore continue to play in the National Football League One for the time being. “In the long term, he will also train with the first team,” Union SG said.
Castro Montes
Stevens follows Alessio Castro Montes. They are both full-backs and transferred from KAA Gent to Union SG. Castro Monti made a big impression on the Brussels FC winger last season. His name was even briefly mentioned for a place in the European Championship chosen by national coach Domenico Tedesco.
