In the colder months of the year we wear thicker clothes. Summer dresses and blouses give way to thick cardigans and sweaters. But they take up much more space than well-ventilated summer clothes. How do you practically fold and store thick jackets? We explain.
Avoid hanging jackets on a hanger
Thick jackets in particular can slide off very quickly once folded. Plus, they take up a lot of space on a shelf or in a drawer. Avoid hanging clothes on a hanger, as this may cause them to stretch. It is best stored lying down.
Store sweaters lying down
The method we’ll explain works best in a drawer. But it also works on a shelf, if the space where the jackets will be placed is protected. Or use a (sturdy) basket that you can place on a shelf or on the floor.

Marie Kondo method
The way you fold and then store them can make a difference in space. The Japanese Marie Kondo is the one who made this method famous. She became known for her cleaning method.
How it works?
Place the jacket facing down with your arms spread out on a flat, sturdy surface. Do you have a turtleneck? Then fold it over the rest of the fabric. Draw an imaginary line down the middle and then fold one side towards that center line. Take the spread arm to the other side. Then fold it back and then the arm down. Repeat this with the other side.
Instead of folding the jacket in half once, fold it in half twice. Start at the bottom and go about a third of the way to the top of the jacket. Continue folding or rolling in this manner. It’s now a smaller package. Do this with all the jackets you have.
Then pack the drawer or shelf. Instead of placing jackets horizontally, place them vertically. This way, the drawer will fit more and it will also be easier to know what color or pattern the item of clothing is. Shown in the video below.
