Hein Vanhaezebrouck appears to be spending his final weeks at AA Gent. The two sides haven't said it yet in so many words, but it's no secret that their paths will part after this season. This represents the end of an era for both parties.
After all, Vanhisbrouck has been at Gent for no less than 6.5 years, an eternity in his coaching career. The question now is where his next challenge will be. A very noticeable rumor in this regard has appeared in recent days.
Some quarters have suggested that Vanhaysbrouck could start working as technical director at Club Brugge. He is said to have sat at the table with Bart Verhaeghe several times. A transfer would be very impressive given the rivalry between the club and Vanhaysbrouck in recent years.
After the match against Westerlo, the interviewer tried DAZN/ELEVEN To ask Vanhaezebrouck about the rumours. He pointed out that the coach spoke to “an influential and important man at the head of a black club.”
Van Heisbrouck brilliantly debunks the rumours
Vanhisbrouck replied with a broad smile. “Denderleeuw (meaning FCV Dender, ed.)! That's bluish black I think,” he joked. “Timmy Simmons can come here and I can go there. We can interchange.”
Vanhisbrouck immediately succeeded in defusing the question. No doubt he will first want to help his club Ghent secure a European ticket before he gets serious about his future. Until then, there will undoubtedly be a lot of speculation about his destination.
