Michael Verschueren has worked at RSC Anderlecht for thirteen years. At one point he was the big sporting leader, but when Wouter Vandenhout and others came to the club, it was game over. Talk about it.
Verschueren was restored to the world rankings very soon after Vandenhaute’s arrival (first as chancellor and then as president). Peter Verbeke became sporting president.
Verschueren has increasingly faded into the background and this year he has pulled the plug completely. He left the club permanently after 13 years and is no longer a member of the board of directors.
Verschueren was furious
Verschueren, along with Cook, was the main driver behind Kompany’s comeback. After just two and a half years, he was forced to step down from his position as sporting director. His “demotion” hit hard.
“There were frustrations for sure. I was angry because my work was not finished yet. It happened in the middle of the season and I had prepared things that I could not deliver. I could not deliver good results, so as an entrepreneur you are then not satisfied,” says Verschuuren. Eleven insiders.
Return is not an option
“Did I get enough time? I didn’t think so at the time. Then I took a step back. But today I’m very happy with what I’m doing now. Will I play a role at Anderlecht again? In the current context, that’s a question,” says Verschueren. not necessary. The club has changed structurally. “They brought in people who are going to be there for a while.”
