A notable incident on Monday evening left passengers on a Virgin Australia flight back to square one less than an hour and a half after departure.
Flight VA696 departed from Perth to Melbourne on Monday evening local time. Shortly after take-off, one of the passengers took off his clothes and began running naked through the cabin. The man allegedly knocked a crew member to the ground. Eventually, he was reportedly pinned to the ground by one of the other passengers on board, and handcuffed. Meanwhile, it was decided from the cockpit to return to Perth, where the Boeing 737 returned its wheels to the ground less than half an hour after departure.
Once he arrived at the airport, the police arrested the passenger in question. He is being examined in hospital and will appear in court in June. Virgin Australia has apologized to affected passengers for the inconvenience. according to ABC No one on board was seriously injured.
It is more common that passengers tend to shed their clothes during the flight. Late last year, a 60-year-old woman exposed herself on a Frontier Airlines flight from Orlando to Philadelphia and threatened to urinate in the cabin. The woman has now been charged and could be sentenced to several years in prison.
