The Diabolo surcharge on NMBS tickets, which must be paid to and from Brussels Airport, must be cancelled. This is what the employers’ organization FOCA – Flemish Chamber of Commerce Brabant is calling for. The public transport company’s new transportation plan went into effect yesterday.
“We are happy to start the ambitious transport plan, but note that Brussels Airport is more accessible,” says Chris Claes, Managing Director of Voka-KvK Flemish Brabant. “It is a missed opportunity not to choose more connectivity and additional development opportunities for Brussels Airport.”
The employers’ organization advocates the elimination of the Diabolo surcharge. This additional fee is an additional amount that travelers must pay if they want to travel to and from the airport. The surcharge is €6.40 which is higher than the cost of a standard ticket.
Meanwhile, Claes calls for direct, high-speed connectivity to the airport. Early and late trains running to and from the airport are also important for the EO.
NMBS’s new transit plan applies to the period from December 2023 to December 2026 and should increase train kilometers traveled by 7.4 percent during that period. By the end of this period, an additional 2,000 trains are supposed to be running every week. The first, and most limited, modifications happened yesterday.
