Soudal Quick-Step head to the Vuelta with a strong line-up around the reborn Mikel Landa. The Spanish leader will be accompanied by William Junior Lecerf, who is making his Grand Tour debut, and Kasper Asgreen, among others. After not being selected for the Tour de France, the Dane will have the chance to prove himself in a Grand Tour this season. Two-time Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel will not start this year in the Tour he won in 2022.
After his strong performance in the Tour de France – in which he rode to a very honorable fifth place in the Evenepoel general classification – Landa has the chance to prove himself in his home country in the white and blue of Soudal Quick-Step. He is supported by the Belgians Louis Vervaeke, Maury Vansevenant and Lecerf. The latter lightweight is making his Grand Tour debut.
There is still a big tour for Asgreen.
In addition to the necessary Belgians, Patrick Lefevere’s team also selected Casper Pedersen, James Knox and Mattia Cattaneo. Asgreen completes the Vuelta squad after being inactive at La Grande Boucle last month. The non-selection caused a lot of disappointment for the Dane, who said he had prepared well to support Evenepoel. After all, the sprinter won another stage on the Tour in 2023.
