Better late than never? Well, Thomas Meunier may have taken that mantra a little too far. The Belgian right-back reportedly terminated his expiring contract with Trabzonspor five minutes before the deadline. It’s a move that didn’t go down well with their Turkish president. “He sent us an email that made us very angry,” he said.
Thomas Meunier is free again.
Although there is a potential case hanging over the Belgian right-back. Reason: Meunier is said to have left his former employer Trabzonspor in a very high-profile manner..
Although our compatriot did not hide the fact that he was looking for another team, in recent days it seemed that he would simply stay in Turkey.
“But last night, five minutes before the deadline, he (Munir, editor) sent us an email that made us very angry,” Trabzonspor chairman Ertugrul Dogan said in a statement today.
“He only informed us at 11.55pm that he had unilaterally terminated his contract. I have appointed lawyers and we will exercise our rights. We will sue him and the club he is moving to,” he said.
A final move that Mounier could have made because he wanted to play closer to home. And so the Jupiler Pro League suddenly didn’t seem so far away anymore.
