The Belgian Olympic Committee has responded for the first time to the distress experienced by GYMFED. After the dismissal of Marjorie Huells and Eve Kiefer, the head coaches of Olympic champion Nina Derwael, the world of gymnastics was turned upside down. With less than 300 days before the Olympics, the ICC wants an urgent solution to the Nina Druel problem. “First of all, we want Nina to feel comfortable, and we will always support her. We don’t know the exact reasons for sacking coaches, but there are a lot of reasons for sacking them. We have every confidence in the federation.”

look. Full interview with Cedric van Branteghem
Cédric Van Branteghem, CEO of the Belgian and Federal Olympic Committee (BOIC) as of March 1, 2022, faces a difficult task. The Flemish gymnastics federation, Gymfed, decided at the beginning of this week to end the cooperation with head coaches Marjorie Heuls and Eve Kieffer with immediate effect. For Nina Druel, the spearhead of Olympic selection, this is undoubtedly a big blow. The Olympic champion lost her coach.
BOIC wants to keep sending Derwael anyway. But what if she decided to continue with her coaches? “This is still speculation. We will continue to support Nina anyway. We don’t know yet who it will be. We won’t go any further than that yet.”
Van Branteghem does not know the details of the dismissal. “I don’t know anything more yet, but I’m sure the dismissal will be justified. But the most important thing for us is to make sure Nina feels comfortable. She will first sort everything out. It’s still too early to predict everything. It’s a fact that Time is running out
