Will this be the year of Aston Martin? ‘Sebastian Vettel deserves a strong car to perform in’ | Formula 1

An important season is upon us at Aston Martin. Driver Sebastian Vettel still has a one-year contract with the team and – after a disappointing season – wants to fight for victory again. “The four-time world champion doesn’t accept an eighth place,” said new team captain Mike Crake.

With a 53 GP win, Sebastian Vettel replaced Ferrari with Aston Martin in 2021. In the Italian stable, the German was pushed out. Vettel listened to the temptation of owner Lawrence Stoll.

Aston Martin started last season with ambition, but was not able to meet the high expectations of the four-time world champion. Vettel finished 12th, and the team was only able to keep the “juniors” Haas, Alfa Romeo and Williams behind among the decision-makers.

That has to change, new team boss Mike Crack knows. Luxemburger replaces Ottmar Szafnauer – who has moved to the Alpine competition – and immediately raises the bar: “Our job is to give Sebastian a car that performs well. He is an intelligent driver who requires a winning mindset.”

If Vettel sees our potential, he will sign.

“The four-time world champion does not accept eighth place in the race,” continues Crack. He knows Vettel like no other, as the German made his debut under Crack at Sauber in 2007.

“Vettel will not only look at the performance this year, but also at the development of the team. If he sees potential, he will sign.”

Aston Martin is putting a lot of pressure on itself. But the team is ready for that, according to Crack: “We can respond faster than any other team to changes this year. We’ve been well prepared, and we’re ready.”

And let’s hope the car is fast enough to follow Mercedes and Red Bull.
