Minister Ben Weitz first hinted a year and a half ago that he wanted to bring the 2027 World Cup to Flanders. The prayer is now official. A fierce competitor has now done it too.
The Red Flames became popular and inspired many young women to play soccer. That’s why Ben Waits wants to try to bring the Women’s Soccer World Cup to Flanders. Belgium, along with the Netherlands and Germany, submitted a bid for the 2027 World Cup.
There are officially three contenders. Brazil, South Africa and the US/Mexico are the three low countries and rivals for Germany. The program in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany was launched a few weeks ago.
Brazil goes all out
Now the Brazilians have also officially submitted their bid. They did this last weekend in the Copa Libertadores final. The Women’s World Cup has never been held in South America. Will this change in 2027?
A decision will be made in spring 2024. While the previous World Cup was organized in Australia and New Zealand, the 2026 Men’s World Cup will be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Does it play a role for women? To see that.
