Should Visma-Lease a Bike go back to the drawing board for the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix? Theis Zonneveld sees how the team could approach things differently.
Visma-Lease a Bike dominated the opening weekend, and at the E3 Saxo Classic it had to endure the rule of the strongest against Mathieu van der Poel. The world champion prevented the team from playing with an excessive number.
This was of course also due to falls and bad luck by Hagenes and Van Baarle, but in the final only Van Aert and Jorgenson were present in Visma-Lease a Bike. Can they play surplus in ronde and roupaix?
“Maybe it would be better if they did something completely different in the Tour of Flanders and dared to let one of their best riders go too early,” suggests Thijs Zonneveld. In the wheel.
More opportunities in Paris-Roubaix for Fan Art
Although Zonneveld mainly sees opportunities in Paris-Roubaix for Wout van Aert. In E3, Van Aert was able to respond to attacks on the less steep slopes such as the Stationsberg, but not on the steeper Traaiberg.
“In Paris-Roubaix, it will be difficult for Van der Poel to release Van Aert. There it will be closer together,” says Zonneveld. This was the case last year, but Van Aert had a flat tire and Van der Poel took off.
