Forcing outright promotion in a home game was Dender's mission in the penultimate round against Zulte Waregem. At first, they had to win by themselves, but they couldn't. After 12/12, 10 Dender players lost 1-3 to Zulte Waregem.
The first half is very average
Nervous or not, the first half produced very few goal chances. It is worth noting some long shots that we usually do not consider worthy of mention. There was also a sharp free-kick from captain Deandre Haines and a sharp cross from Ferraro, but both crosses/shots went wide.
Cold shower after rest
In the second half, it took less time for something to happen. After a long ball, Gavriel dived into the penalty area for Marzo. He saw no other option but to bring down the Essevee player, leaving Wim Smet no choice but to point to the penalty spot. Marzo also received a red card. Vossen sent Gies the wrong way and put the visitors up 0-1.
Despite the numerical deficiency, Dender increased the pressure towards De Wolf's goal, but the home team did not exceed a few corner kicks. Zolty did just that in transition and immediately got his first big chance. Traoré came out faster than his rival Roussin, rounded the goalkeeper and put the ball into the empty goal.
Short hope
But there was no surprise as Nsimba scored with ten minutes to play. After Mbarki's brilliant preparation work, Nsimba could do no wrong.
This hope did not last long. After poor defending from Coles, Traore was only able to continue through Jess. He punished the inadvertent error that secured Zulte Waregem's victory.
In stoppage time, substitute Vormer added the score. After a measured cross from the left flank from Gavriel, the Dutchman slotted the final score 1-4 past Jess across the turf.
